NEW YORK - A recently published study out of Europe shows that children who have one or more parents who either abuse alcohol or who are alcoholics, have increased risk of alcoholism.

In addition, the study seems to indicate that this predisposition occurred more highly in female participants than in their male counterparts.

Parental factors, regardless of what they are, always have a strong influence on children, begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . It's no wonder that alcoholism and alcohol abuse demonstrates the same. Early intervention in affected families is necessary to help determine other risk factors and to react in time to assist families in not perpetuating the cycle of abuse. Some times, children feel as if they will, inevitably, become what their parents are from a negative perspective. With alcohol and drug abuse education and early intervention, we are able to show these affected children that their future can and will be different. With a concerted social effort, we can help affected families heal and become alcohol-free.

While there are many factors which influence alcoholism risk in families, repeated studies do show that genetics do play a large factor in the cycle of drug and alcohol abuse.
