For one special night on 27th May 2011, Long Night of the
Churches will be celebrating the churches of the dioceses in many parts
of the country and is inviting people to come and visit as many of
these unique buildings as they can fit into the evening.
This year roughly 260 churches will be taking part and these will predominantly be
in Vienna although Linz, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Graz will also feature to offer
people the chance to see a wide representation of different locations.
The event will begin with city wide bell tolling as soon as the church clocks strike
17:50 and after the sound has finished ringing through the city streets, special
services will then begin. The services will often feature full choirs combined with
Bible readings and then visitors are invited to take a tour around the churches
where guides will go into the history of each place.
As many as 160,000 people have taken part in previous evenings and this huge number
of extra visitors is set to cause difficulties when booking cheap Linz hotels with so many more people in the cities.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “Organising a hotel stay
in plenty of time will be essential for anyone planning on visiting Linz on this
busy date.”
