September 11, 2012, 1:00 pm-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- This September sees one of the most popular comedians in the UK finish a long-awaited nationwide tour with an impressive 10 dates at London’s 02 Arena. Michael McIntyre, who made his name as a guest on TV panel shows before cementing his reputation through stints Live at the Hammersmith Apollo, is now a bonafide stand-up star, and a headliner to boot.
This September 26th he arrives at the O2 Arena, where he will stay until 6th October. It’s not the only huge venue on this tour – in November he is also booked to play the Wembley Stadium.
Such has been his rise that he can now book the kind of venues to which huge rock groups like Kings of Leon and the Rolling Stones can also lay claim. The secret to his success has perhaps been his honest way of presenting himself –an affable, slightly camp posh boy with a silly voice.
This, combined with his neat observations of politics and everyday life, always delivered with a softness rather than any kind of incendiary edge, has made him loved by the armchair comedy fans, and those able to buy tickets for large live comedy shows.
The forthcoming London gigs are close to selling out – with tickets still available for a selection of the 10 dates – but for those still far away from cementing their plans, HotelMap has some excellent deals on London hotels near the 02 for making a real weekend of it.
Just over the river from the 02 is the Radisson Blu Edwardian, which offers double rooms for £98 a night on the opening weekend of McIntyre’s residency (29th and 30th September) – this exclusive discount comes courtesy of HotelMap.
Alternatively, take a more sedate approach and stay near leafy Dulwich, where the Melrose House Bed and Breakfast on Lennard Road has cosy doubles from £50 per night, and easy access by overground into the 02 complex.
