December 13, 2012, 3:55 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The London Coliseum is hosting a Christmas run of ‘The Nutcracker'. Performed by the English National Ballet, the show will run from December 12th until January 5th 2013.
The ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman's 1816 novella, ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King', in which a young girl's favourite toy comes to life on Christmas Eve. The girl is whisked away to a magical kingdom of living dolls. The story was famously brought to the stage in 1892. Working from Alexandre Dumas' adaptation, choreographers Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa set movement to Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's classic score.
New choreography has been created by Wayne Eagling, former artistic director of the English National Ballet. The performance is expected to be a highlight of this year's Christmas season in the capital. Tickets cost between £8 and £60, with evening and matinee shows running from Wednesday to Friday, and matinees only on Sundays.
