Skate at Somerset Sun

There are fewer places more picturesque than Somerset House in winter when the giant courtyard is turned into a winter wonderland on ice. The 18 th -century building is the perfect backdrop for this seasonal activity. Celebrate finishing work early with some mulled wine, a warm mince pie and a skate around Somerset House.

Carol singing at Westminster Abbey

For families with young children who can't quite make it to Midnight Mass Service of Lessons and Carols at 4pm at Westminster Abbey is a great alternative. Once again Christmas spirit abounds with candles and carols in a beautiful historic location.

Last minute shopping at Southbank Centre Christmas Market

It wouldn't be Christmas without some last minute shopping, but do it in style at Southbank Centre Christmas Market. 70 wooden chalet-style stalls line the Thames between the London Eye and Waterloo Bridge selling everything from hand-made wooden toys to soaps, candles, ceramics, glass and ornaments. Refuel with tasty crepes, roasted nuts, hog roasts, sausages, mince pies, gingerbread hearts and Gluhwein (German mulled wine).

Scrooge the Musical

Charles Dickens would have been quite satisfied with Leslie Briscusse's musical. One of the most famous Christmas stories has been adapted for the stage at the London Palladium and Christmas Eve is the perfect time to reflect on the story's message and take a look into Christmases past, present and future.
