Major retrospective of the pop icon to be presented at Victoria & Albert Museum, with London hotels offering discounted rates nearby

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- This March 23rd, the V & A launches an all-encompassing look back at the life and career of David Bowie. The exhibition, David Bowie Is, will feature costumes, lyric sheets, instruments, photographs, video and memorabilia. The exhibition will run from March 23rd until July 28th.

More than sixty outfits spanning Bowie's fifty year career will be exhibited. Highlights include the outlandish costumes designed for the Ziggy-era tours, clean zoot suits and canes from the Thin White Duke period, and the Union Jack coat Bowie co-designed with Alexander McQueen for the cover of 1997's Earthling album.

By taking the visitor through each period of the constantly-evolving sideshow that is Bowie's career, the exhibition follows his journey from a Brixton babyboomer (born David Robert Jones) onto early attempts at r & b success with the King Bees, through the hippy era (when Bowie discovered a fondness for mime) and onto massive commercial success with his innovative seventies albums and stage shows.

The exhibition also takes a look at Bowie's immersion into celluloid. An early exponent of the music video, and a perfectly decent actor (notching up starring roles in The Man Who Fell to Earth and Labyrinth), Bowie is shown in all his screen glory across the exhibition.

Tickets for David Bowie Is range from £10.60 for kids and students up to £17.30 for adults. Bookings can be made via LondonTown.com. The site has also announced deals on hotels close to the V & A. The offers are available exclusively through LondonTown.com.
