March 26, 2013, 1:06 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Acclaimed production company Told By An Idiot have returned with a new play. Currently touring the country, My Perfect Mind is set to run at the Young Vic from April 3rd until April 20th
The story tells a fictionalized account of real-life classical actor Edward Petherbridge's casting as King Lear. Two days into rehearsals for his dream role, Petherbridge is waylaid by a stroke that renders him unable to move. The actor discovers that the role continues to exist in his perfect mind', and as the action unfolds, the audience finds out how an actor goes from utter helplessness to regaining dignity.
The two-hander is completed by Paul Hunter who, along with Petherbridge, performs multiple roles throughout. Among the strange twists and turns of the narrative is a scene in which both Hunter and Petherbridge depict Laurence Olivier's version of Lear, as performed in the National Theatre canteen.
The play is directed by Kathryn Hunter, and has been described as moving yet comical'. Set designer Michael Vale helps the audience visualize Petherbridge's past, present and future failures and successes. It marks Told By An Idiot's 20th year of work, and promises to wow London critics and audiences alike during the two week initial run.
