Press Release Body = London, UK – 14th March 2005 - As networks increase in size and complexity, security products are growing in sophistication and security threats are becoming more ingenious. There is an increasing awareness of external threats and
consequently organisations are implementing solutions to protect them from these threats. DeveloperEye.com, the online resource center for the application development communities, carried out a market study among European companies to find
about which security measures they have in place. The study compares the following countries; UK, Germany, France and Italy.

Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus, Firewalls and Network Security have become essential tools for organisations. It is no longer the question of having the choice to use security solutions; unfortunately it has become inevitable for the modern organisation. Not
surprisingly, 97 percent of the respondents could confirm that they were using IT security solutions.

The importance of IT security is evident in Europe as a whole. For France and the UK, all participants were using IT security solutions. For Germany and Italy, the results also revealed a strong usage with 94 percent of the Germans - and 93 percent of the Italian respondents using IT security infrastructure.

The respondents were also asked if security was a priority for their company. 84 percent of the respondents claimed that security is a priority for their organisation. In addition, the participants also had to indulge whether or not the priority had increased over the past 12 months. For 78 percent of the respondents, the security priority had increased over the past year, while 15 percent stated that
the priority had stayed the same. The remaining 7 percent said that the priority had actually decreased.

The study also investigated whether the participants personally perceive security threats increasing. As expected, 74 percent explained that they personally perceive security threats as increasing.

As for allocation of IT budget to security, there are regional differences, where some companies does not have any budget at all, while others allocate over 15
percent of the budget to security infrastructure. However, the most important aspect is that companies have invested in security solutions and have therefore taken action to be prepared for tomorrow’s threats.
