The multi-discipline exhibition examines healthcare through art produced in six countries, from Kenya to Vietnam.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The Wellcome Collection's winter exhibition opens this week. It's called Foreign Bodies, Common Ground and offers a fascination look at health all over the globe through art, including painting, photography, sculpture, film and performance, funded by the Wellcome Trust in six countries, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam and the UK. It is typical of the Wellcome Collection's dedication to combining art and science, marrying the two cultures with imagination and flair. The Wellcome Collection is located on the Euston Road, close to dozens of cheap London hotels. For the latest room rates, see LondonTown.com, which has details for numerous cheap hotels in London.

Foreign Bodies, Common Ground runs from 14th November to 9th February. It features the work of artists who were asked to investigate health research being undertaken and produce work responding to their investigations. The result is a series of works that are richly varied in form and tone. Lêna Bùi's drawings, photography, video and installation explore the transfer of disease from animals to humans, looking at the relationship between the consumption of animals and the conditions of their breeding, killing and packaging in Vietnam. By contrast, photographs from the workshops at the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa put a human face to data collection regarding the country's HIV epidemic. The nine photographs on display acknowledge the contribution of the Mtubatuba community to this work.

Danielle Olsen, the exhibition curator, says: Foreign Bodies, Common Ground asks questions about what we understand by global health and the wonderfully rich body of artworks on display offers moving and often unexpected insights into scientific processes and the community relationships upon which those processes depend.
