December 16, 2013, 4:00 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- It started in 2008 as a one-off Humanist antidote to the festive season and has snowballed into an annual Christmas shindig that attracts hoards of special guests. Robin Ince's science-packed Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless Folk assembles like-minded friends and acquaintances from the worlds of comedy, music, entertainment and science for a couple of hours of eclectic entertainment.
Tickets are now on sale for this year's shows at London's Bloomsbury Theatre on 10-11 and 15-22 December. Visitors to London who want to guarantee they aren't sleeping in a stable can book a great London Hotel through the website LondonTown.com. And with live updates on room availability across central London, even those booking at the last minute can ensure they find room at an Inn.
This is a unique event where no evening is the same as contributors change according to who is available that night. A comedian who happens to be in town may rock up with a guitar and join in; a learned scientist may come on and lecture in quantum physics while performing magic tricks. No one ever knows quite what will happen, least of all Ince himself.
Expected to show up at some point this year are: Lee Mack, Marcus du Sautoy, John Hegley, Bridget Christie, Jonny & the Baptists, Scroobius Pip, Mark Watson, Richard Herring, Phil Jeays, Steve Backshall, Marcus Brigstocke and Shappi Khorsandi.
Ince has said this will be the last year of Nine Lessons. Tickets are £25 (£15 concessions) and are already selling fast. Money raised from the concerts will go to the Rationalist Association, publishers of The New Humanist magazine. The latest news on each evening's line up can be found on their website rationalist.org.uk.
Booking a London hotel through LondonTown.com allows you to pinpoint the nearest hotels to the theatre, and to find the rooms with the best rates.
