Cash, the eldest daughter of American superstar Johnny Cash, wrote and recorded The River & The Thread with her husband and producer John Leventhal. Many of the songs concern life and history in the American south, and feature varied musical styles, from blues and gospel to folk, country and rock. It has been hailed as the best album of her long career and features guest appearances from great American singer-songwriters such as Alison Moorer, Rodney Crowell, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson and Tony Joe White. It is her 15th album.
Cash was born in Memphis and raised in California. She has had 21 Top 40 country singles, including 11 No 1s. She has received 12 GRAMMY nominations, winning in 1985 and has also published four books. Her essays and fiction have appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone and New York magazine, among others.
