BFI Bankside unveils a season celebrating the brilliant Japanese anime of Studio Ghibli.

LONDON, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- One of the world's most popular and successful animation studios, Studio Ghibli, will be celebrating its 30th birthday with a season of films at the BFI Bankside. The Japanese animators were founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki and in the past three decades have been responsible for some of the greatest cartoon films in cinema history, including Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Arrietty.

Their latest film The Wind Rises will be screened as part of the BFI season, which takes place over April and May of 2014. The Wind Rises will be the final film by Miyazaki, so is hotly anticipated. As well as its premiere in April, the BFI Southbank will be showing new prints of classic films by Studio Ghibli, some of which have never before been seen in cinemas in the UK. The season will begin on 2 nd April with a talk entitled ­ Studio Ghibli Masters Of Anime, which will explore the quality and beauty of the Studio's output, its evolution through its 30 year history and discuss why it hasn't had the same box-office impact as its American contemporaries such as Pixar despite rapturous critical reception. Other events include a Family Funday on 27th April, at which children will be invited to make their own cast of spirit gods' after a special family screening of Oscar-nominated classic Spirited Away.
