Ellaville, GA, -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Jackie Carpenter knows why the movie that was based on her two books became such a hit and proved Hollywood wrong. Normally their assertion that an independent film, without a big-time Hollywood star in the lead role, could not make a box office hit might be correct but Jackie believes Hollywood didn’t count on one very big factor – God!

Stand Your Ground: A Cry for Justice (Triple Horse Studios) has had a huge impact on moviegoers because it could have happened to any one of us. The movie tells the chilling true story of the ordeal this Georgia mom and her family endured when her son was arrested and falsely accused of murder. Proving the naysayers wrong, this independent film not only came in 4th in the country per screen average on opening weekend, it was held over for three weeks in three theaters and seven weeks in another – all without a top Hollywood movie star playing the lead role! Add the fact that negotiations are in place for television movie of the week, followed by the release of a DVD, and it’s easy to see why this woman of faith believes it was ‘The God Factor.’

In a chilling twist of fate Lucy McBath, the actress who plays the grieving mother of the man accidentally killed in the movie, lost her own son last year – shot by a man who tried to use the Stand Your Ground Law as his defense. Known as the “Loud Music Murder Trial,” the case resulted in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked.

Based on Jackie Carpenter’s two books that tell the explosive story of her son’s trial, the movie portrays how this Georgia mom’s faith got her through the worst time in her life and how her prayers were answered when God showed up in the courtroom that fateful day when the jury reached a “not guilty” verdict. While Jackie never intended to be an author, let alone the subject of an award-winning movie, she became that and more when her son’s trial also became a textbook case that made legal history.

Jackie’s story has made her a featured guest on television, radio, and in newspaper articles.
