St. Clair Shores, Michigan, August 05, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- International Chaplaincy Training (ICT) initiates the season with additions to the leadership team. ICT strengthens the upcoming fall program by bringing Carl & Trish DiVirgilio (Fundación Efraín) on board. The 12-week course, scheduled to start in early September, is preceded by a kick off gala on August 9.
Chaplaincy training effectuates critical support needed for the community in the workforce, hospitals and public services, and among first responders such as police and fire departments.
As ICT Coordinator Peggy Brady elaborates, "Chaplaincy certification has definitely opened the doors of ministry for our graduates to serve their communities in various workplace ministry positions. ICT chaplains have secured both volunteer positions and employment in hospitals, prisons, police departments, and community service organizations, to name a few."
Popular information source Wikipedia further describes the scope and diversity of chaplaincy in the United States today. The Economist (August 25, 2007, P. 64) reported 4,000 chaplains working in corporate America that year. However, this is not a new trend. Cheryl Heckler-Feltz writes, as early as her August 13, 1993 article entitled, “Chaplains Become Big Business” for the National Catholic Reporter:
“But now employees and their managers are increasingly seeing chaplains as a bottom-line benefit.
By increasing its force of industrial chaplains, corporate America is taking an unusual step to improve productivity among employees, according to several experts involved in training and supplying chaplains.”
“We’re excited to be involved in such a worthwhile program and plan to take the course online to expand the borders of its important outreach,” Mrs. DiVirgilio replied when asked about ICT’s future.
