The Almeida's winter season will kick off with a classic. Their production of Shakespeare's The Merchant Of Venice (5th December 2014 14th February 2015) relocates the action from Venice to Las Vegas, and features Ian McDiarmid as Shylock. McDiarmid is a previous Artistic Director at the Almeida but is best known for playing Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars films. Between 7th January and 7th February 2015, the Almeida will present The Fever by Wallace Shawn in a suite of The May Fair Hotel. The play takes the form of a single searing monologue set in a hotel room, and it will be performed before a small nightly audience of 28 in the intimate surroundings of a room at the hotel
From 23rd February to 4th April, the Almeida will be staging the world premiere of Game by Mike Bartlett, who has won awards for previous plays such as King Charles III, Artefacts, Cock and Love, Love, Love. Game takes place during a housing crisis and features a young couple who are offered their own home but what will be the cost? The Almeida auditorium will be completely transformed for this ground-breaking production. Finally, the Almeida will host Carmen Disruption from 10th April to 23rd May 2015. This is a dramatic reimagining of Bizet's Carmen, exploring the possibility of love in a fractured urban world. For more about tickets and current productions at the Almeida, see LondonTown.com.
