Miami Beach, FL, December 12, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- On Saturday, December 6, 2014, Cricket and Martin Taplin, owners of Sagamore, The Art Hotel, along with the Bass Museum of Art, Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami Lowe Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, Perez Art Museum Miami, and the Wolfsonian-FIU, welcomed over 2,500 of the world’s leading artists, curators, gallerists and art enthusiasts for the 13th Annual Art Basel Brunch, coined by the press as the most sought-after Art Basel event of the season.
This year the Sagamore in collaboration with Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) exhibited a hotel-wide installation titled SCREEN PLAY: MOVING IMAGE ART curated by Lori Zippay, EAI's Executive Director. The exhibition brings together a collection of pieces that examines the relationship of the moving image to other artistic media and forms—performance, photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, cinema—across six decades. It also probes the distinctive languages associated with film, video and digital media.
Some of the notable attendees included renowned art critic and curator, Jerome Sans; National Program Director for ArtTable, Lucy Lydon; Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Bass Museum of Art Miami Beach, Silvia Karman Cubiña; Owner of the Fredric Snitzer Gallery, Fred Snitzer; Founder of Spinello Projects, Anthony Spinello; artist Robert Chambers; artist Jacolby Satterwhite; artist Leslie Thornton; architect Allan Shulman; photographer Robin Hill; renowned film and media art curator, John Hanhardt; Dr. Carol Damian of the Frost Museum; Director of the Lowe Art Museum, Jill Deupi; art historian Julia Hertzberg; and guest curator Lori Zippay.
“It is always fantastic to come together to share insights, ideas, creative visions and make new connections,” said Cricket Taplin. “As always, we enjoyed a marvelous combination of innovation, inspiration and great company.”
