LONG BEACH, Calif., November 12, 2015 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- The powerhouse duo of electro-pop music known as Second Space have released their debut single track, “Square One.” The track has been proudly published as an independent release without the influence of the corporate music industry. Booming and full, pulsing and rhythmic, awash in colorful vocal melodies and techno-style synth chords, “Square One” from Second Space is gigantic fun on dance floors and in headphones alike.

Second Space are audiophiles with a penchant for a broad range of genres, citing anything from rock to dance music as influences, though they note, “We have preferred not to immerse ourselves in other music when going through [the 'Square One'] production process, staying as focused as possible on developing the unique Second Space sound.”

This characteristic sound is indeed unique, and even uniquely so because it is a kind of newness which feels familiar while remaining unpredictable and having a tone unlike earlier music groups. The Second Space style can be described without much difficulty, however, often in terms of sheer volume and sonic size.

“We've always admired quirky acts who can create a big sound or atmosphere,” writes Second Space. “Many of these were ever present on the radio in our childhoods in the '80s and '90s: Depeche Mode, Trevor Horn, St. Etienne, Alex Metric, Chemical Brothers, Pet Shop Boys, Mutt Lange, Per Gessle...”

Fans of some, any or all of the above will find a happy, dynamic environment in the “Square One” single from Second Space. Exceptionally danceable and suitable for casual listening in equal balance, the track will appeal to a wide audience everywhere in the world.

Second Space themselves write:

“Our debut single 'Square One' offers equal measures of heady, mercurial breakbeats and ethereal vocals. Its production is upfront and compliments a bittersweet song for the tech generation – meaningful lyrics to the throwaway thunder of EDM beats about something more than going out at the weekend getting wasted (as seems to be an established trend for electronic artists to write about these days).”

They describe the style of their single as something new arriving from old-school points of origin.

“The song itself is fairly explanatory with a psychoanalytic, introspective theme, which, universally, we think people can relate to in one way or another. Our intention is to innovate but despite this, you can expect no sonic destruction or avant-garde soundscapes.”

Second Space are vocalist Alison Hilary and producer Oliver Lord from Chester, UK. After achieving moderate success ghost-writing music for big-name DJs, Lord left the scene, unimpressed with what he termed its “formulaic structures,” inspired to produce music with which he was truly satisfied.

“Meeting and writing with Alison was the eureka moment,” their official bio states, “both encouraging each other to throw away the rule book and make something they wanted to hear that inspired them to do what they do best – creating the unique Second Space sound … Initially the intention was to write for established artists, but realising their sound was unique and no session singers could emulate Alison's vocals, they had no choice but to start a band.”

Second Space are currently at work devising a live show and preparing for the release of their new EP, due to drop this coming winter.

“Square One” from Second Space is available online worldwide. Get in early, electronica fans. Very early.
