Press Release Summary: Boys and Girls Club to Hold "Polar Express" Event in December Volunteer Meeting on October 29th
Press Release Body: DATELINE: MARSHFIELD, MA... For the first time, the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield will hold a "Polar Express" magical train ride event this year on December 20, 2008! More than 150 volunteers are needed. A volunteer meeting will be held on October 29th at 7:15 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club located in Library Plaza in Marshfield.
The "Polar Express" will come to life on the Kingston commuter rail on December 20th. The train is scheduled for four trips during the course of the day. The Boys and Girls Club needs volunteers to act as characters such as elves and chefs. They also need all-around volunteers to commit to meetings and help with the organization of the event; ticket taking; souvenir sales; parking, decorating; clean up and serving hot chocolate and cookies to attendees.
Volunteer elves must be 15+ years old and all other volunteers must be 18+ years old and submit to a CORI background check. Community service hours will be awarded to volunteers.
Marshfield High School girl's soccer and basketball teams are already on board to help out with the event. Because such a large number of volunteers for the "Polar Express" are needed, the Club welcomes other school groups such as the Key club, drama club, boosters, Student Council as well as other organizations interested in volunteering at this community event.
Can't make it to the meet but still interested in volunteering? Call 781-834-CLUB (2582). All proceeds from the Polar Express event benefit the privately funded, non-profit the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield.
"This should be a spectacular event, but we really need the help of the community to successfully pull it off," said the club's Executive Director Greg Jackson. "We're excited to have MHS Girl's soccer and basketball boosters involved and certainly welcome other groups as well. This is a huge fundraiser for the club and we may sell over 1,000 tickets, so we need all the help we can get."
Tickets for the "Polar Express" event are $20 each and on sale now at the Boys and Girls Club. Tickets may also be purchased online at marshfieldpolarexpress.com.
The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield has five Core Areas: Character and Leadership; Education and Career; Health, Sport Fitness Recreation and Life Skills; The Arts; and Technology. These Core Areas serve as the foundation for all programming.
