Europcar provided a the first ever human sat-nav to assist a
London couple on their journey to Glastonbury music festival.
Following an internet search on Twitter and music forums to find the UK’s top Glasto
expert, the UK's leading car hire company, Europcar picked Sunta Templeton from
thousands of applicants to be the first ever human sat-nav and events guide for the
famous music festival.
Sunta, 30, by day a music journalist was delivered along with their rental car as
part of Europcar's we Deliver service to the home of Tracey
Standbridge, 27, and her boyfriend Johnny Haynes, 30, who booked their personal
Glastonbury guide for their hire car in an online
trial offer.
Sunta has only missed one festival since 1997 and her line of work as a backstage
reporter and interviewer gives her inside knowledge on the gossip and goings-on most
festival goers don't get to see. Following one backstage meet, she even appeared on
the Pyramid Stage with Elbow in 2004 to join in singing 'Grace Under Pressure'.
Sunta was on hand for the journey to help plan Tracey and Johnny's five days at the
Pilton Farm festival site. As well as her top tips on acts to see - Gorillaz,
Orbital and Rolf Harris - Sunta advised the couple on the essentials of the
experience from camping to waterholes.
Tracey said: "It was great to meet Sunta, our 'Guru', and have her travel down
with us. She really did know everything there is to know about Glastonbury including
events off the beaten track which really helped make our weekend special. We have
loads of festivals planned this summer and will definitely consider using a 'Guru'
again."
Jenny Smith, Brand Manager, Europcar said: "As well as delivering a car to
customers homes, work or hotel, we wanted to be the first to provide the ultimate
added extra to ensure customers get the most out of their travel experience.
"If the idea catches on we'll be looking at everything from a 'Shakespeare Guru'
for Stratford-Upon-Avon to offering a 'Gastro Guru' service for some of the
Continent's top foodie locations such as Lyon in France, the European city with the
most Michelin stars. Customers would simply use Europcar's Airport Connect service to be greeted by both their car and Guru - meaning that technology could be
replaced by local inside knowledge.
"For events and excursions this summer, Europcar has the largest fleet of cars in
the UK and our up to 50% off promotion means that car hire is a great value option,
with or without a guru."
