DirectRooms.com announces that a new highway connecting
Fujairah and Dubai is due to open this July which will greatly improve
transport links between the two emirates.
The road has been completed at a cost of AED 1.6 billion and runs for a distance of
45km as it stretches from Fujairah’s central region to Dubai. The Sheikh Khalifa bin
Zayed Road starts at Fujairah City’s entrance and crosses Al Gazirmi, Asfeeni, Wadi
Sahm, Kadra, Mamdooh and Ras Al Khaimah’s Shawka valleys. The road finishes in the
Hamda area by Sharjah’s Maleeha Road.
The United Arab Emirates’ northern regions are currently experiencing considerable
investment as the country looks to bolster the infrastructure in this area and as
part of this increased developments are being made to the water and electricity
networks in Fujairah.
The port has also seen a series of expansions as it increases its capacity as a hub
for oil and by 2016 the emirate should see the completion of a refinery costing
$3billion and capable of producing 200,000 barrels each day.
Visitors staying in Fujairah hotels will be able to use the road to connect to Dubai when the official
opening is expected in July but an exact date hasn’t been set yet.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “The creation of the new
highway will allow for faster connections and increased mobility due to the three
lanes running each way. General trade and business will be improved and this will
have an effect on hotels which will also see occupancy rates rise.”
