Sculpture-cum-observation-tower built for the Olympic Games will be completed just ahead of tournament.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Currently looming over Stratford’s Olympic Park, and nearing completion, is the ArcelorMittal Orbit observation tower. Designed by Anish Kapoor to, in the words of Mayor Boris Johnson, ‘arouse the curiosity and wonder of Londoners and visitors’, the sculpture stands at a height of 115 metres.

London events and hotels website LondonTown.com has announced a number of discounted London hotels close to the Olympic Park to coincide with the unveiling of the sculpture in May. The event promises to be a great opportunity for visitors to acquaint themselves with an area set to be the centre of the world’s attention this summer.

Described in The Independent as a ‘continuously looping lattice’, the tower, constructed at a cost of 20 million pounds, will ultimately be the largest example of public art in Britain. The project was mostly funded by steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, chairman of ArcelorMittal (and the UKs richest man). The sculpture is located between the Aquatics Centre and the Olympic Stadium.

The tower’s summit can be reached via a lift or spiral staircase. Once at the top, visitors will find a dining area and viewing gallery, looking out across the Olympic Park and on to the rest of London.

Holiday Inn Express London-Stratford is offering a 79% discount on a double or twin room. From £52 per night, guests can stay within a 10 minute walk from the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

From £110 per night, the five star Tower Hall Hotel and Apartments, a fashionable and stylishly appointed recent development in Bethnal Green, is offering reduced rates on double rooms (when booking through LondonTown.com). For this discount, and to see other discounted London hotels, visit LondonTown.com, where you’ll also find further information on the London Olympics.
