London Prepares for the Epsom Derby

Discounted London hotels available for Jubilee weekend and the Queen’s favourite horse race.

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- One of London's oldest and most famous horse races, the Epsom Derby, is returning to London on June 2nd. An event commonly associated with the Royals, this year's race is tied in with the 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations, kicking off an extended Bank Holiday weekend set to last until June 5th.

Helping travelling punters cut down on costs is, the capital's premier booking and information website. They are offering discounts on a number of London hotels within travelling distance of the area.

The first Epsom Derby was organized by the Earl of Derby in 1779. It has taken place annually at Epsom Downs ever since, and now draws tens of thousands of spectators, all waiting to find out which jockey will net the million-pound prize money.

The Queen is a regular, and pits her own horse - the 5-2 favourite Carlton House – against the best equestrians in the business, including last year's Epsom winner Pour Moi, ridden by Mikael Barzalona. Tickets range from £15-£25, with under-18s gaining free access when accompanied by an adult.

Among the discounted hotel deals on offer at is the Hilton Croydon Hotel is offering an 83% discount on double rooms, bringing the nightly rate down to £40. The Hilton Croydon is just less than 7 miles from Epsom Downs.

The Kingston Lodge Hotel, again less than 10 miles from the Epsom racecourse, is offering double rooms for £67 per night, an 86% discount on the usual rate.
