The General: The Colorized Version transforms Buster Keaton’s black-and-white original into a more visually compelling movie by adding the dimension of colorization. The General was Buster Keaton’s favorite film because it offered him the opportunity to utilize the full range of his script-writing, athletic stunt work and other creative talents. The plot involves Keaton playing a Civil War era railroad engineer, Johnnie Gray. He slowly puts into effect a plan to steal a train, The General, from the other side and bring it home to win the girl (played by Marion Mack).

The movie’s best-known scene depicts the collapse of a bridge holding a train into the river, which was the most costly silent movie scene ever filmed. This film is based on an actual event known as the Great Locomotive Chase. This movie was selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry due to its cultural significance. Orson Welles thought this film was the greatest comedy ever made, and a Buster Keaton postage stamp was issued posthumously in recognition of his achievements in a variety of comedy films.
