Singapore, 2020-May-08 — /EPR Network/ — Singapore-based singer and songwriter Matthew Quek announces the release of his long-awaited single, “True Love That Binds”, a follow-up to his 2018 composition, “Unbroken”. Set to be released on Mother’s Day, his latest song was written from his personal experience and pays tribute especially to his mother, Ang Lucy.

Matthew was often ostracised by his peers, due to learning disabilities associated with a complication that endangered his mother during his birth. However, the experience allowed him to recognise those who extended their hand of friendship and kindness to him. The support from his family, especially his mother, played a pivotal role as well. “My family was not that concerned about me getting good grades in school. Instead, all they wanted was for me to live a life with a clear conscience and compassion, and I am grateful for that,” recounted Matthew.

Matthew recently began writing his own reflections on life and the recent occurences in the world, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected many countries. Some of these reflections found their way into his songwriting compositions. “It dawned upon me that in a period of crisis, true relationships are important as they can lift the spirits of a person. This song serves as a poignant reminder that family ties and friendship go beyond material benefits and are far more precious than any accolades one may garner,” said the singer.

Music, which serves as the guiding ‘soundtrack’ to Matthew’s life, has enabled him to pen these lyrics as an ode to genuine family ties, friendships, and the importance of choosing the right priorities through the proper evaluation of one’s life decisions.

With social distancing measures in place since the outbreak of COVID-19, technology has become the primary mode of communication for many. In an unprecedented move in Matthew’s music career, the music video was produced entirely using green screen footage of live performances, animated lyrics and photos without any physical contact. Matthew, a professional voiceover talent, was inspired to showcase his music video through a different medium after he saw a recent music video featuring a lineup of C-level executives from an organisation.

On his thoughts about the current situation which has impacted the world, Matthew said: “ We may have been so busy trying to rush around in our daily lives that we have taken things for granted. But in the midst of the current pandemic, terrible as it is in terms of the sorrow and confusion it has caused, it has forced many of us to take time to really reflect on what is truly important in life.”

ANNEX A

True Love That Binds – Lyrics

Verse 1

I need to know you’ll always be

The one who stays through thick and thin

When others leave, they turn aside, and fears give in

Verse 2

The winds of change show truths within

Who are those ones who would not leave

The ties that bind, through times of woe

They won’t give in

Chorus

It’s who we are, in times of calm, security

That anchors us through pain, the trials, perplexities

To give us courage, strength, compassion, dignity

To not give in

Those sacrifices, kindness shown in words and deeds

They may not be applauded, noticed, praised, acclaimed

Be true in the small things, then you will find

It’s true love that binds.

Verse 3

The coils of our mortality

Reminds us what we need to be

Don’t think that you have always time, to wait and see

Verse 4

Cherish the ones who’ll always be

With you in times of grief or peace

It’s through such ones we’ll face those trials

With victory

Bridge

There may be those who’re always bending with the wind

So be the ones that’s firm, true, steadfast in the rain
