Southbank Centre hosts a day of events centred around the current Greek crisis, with contributions from stars of literature, comedy, media and music

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Details of the Southbank Centre's day of events analysing the current economic and cultural situation in Greece can now be found on leading London hotels website, LondonTown.com.

On 19 October 2013, the Purcell Rooms will be taken over by leading writers, comedian, musician and commentators from Greece who will stage a succession of talks, events and entertainments, with contributions from well-known British experts.

The day gets underway at 2.30pm with Greek Fictions, a coming together of contemporary Greek writers such as Ioanna Karystiani (Back to Delphi) and poet Katerina Iliopoulou to talk about how the political situation is affecting literature, complemented by talks from historian Bettany Hughes and novelist Victoria Hislop, who has used Greece as a setting for her best-selling books.

At 5.30pm, Channel 4 News' Paul Mason chairs a debate on Media Myths, looking at the role of the press in the crisis, and what happens when the official media ceases to function.

The day is rounded off with Katerina's Krisis Kabaret at 8pm. Hosted by Greek stand up Katarina Vrana, it promises a lively evening of music (from Pavlos Melas), poetry, drama, comedy and even live graphic drawing.
