Nine top London restaurants join Michelin’s starry firmament

-- /EPR NETWORK/ -- London's galaxy of Michelin-starred restaurants has added nine new names, and seen some shine even brighter, following the release last week of the 2014 Michelin guide. Almost all of these can be booked online through LondonTown.com.

More than ten of the smartest hotels in London not only have four- and five-star ratings in their own right, but also Michelin-starred restaurants attached. Heston Blumenthal's much talked about Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has been upgraded from one to an exclusive two stars, as has the Greenhouse in Mayfair, joining existing two-star establishments Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley and Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, as well as Sketch, The Ledbury, Michel Roux Jr's Le Gavroche, Hibiscus and The Square.

Of the UK's four three-starred restaurants, places considered buy the judges to offer exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey', two are in London :

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea.

Nine London restaurants have been awarded their first star out of 15 nationwide many less than a year after opening. Lima becomes Europe 's first Michelin-starred Latin American restaurant, leading the way in Peruvian cuisine. HKK (Shoreditch) and Alvin Leung's Bo London fly the flag for oriental food, the latter with its self-styled X-treme Chinese' food and fusion dishes such as Chinese toad-in-the-hole. There's a star for Spain's Elena Arzak, Veuve Clicquot's World's Best Female Chef 2012, and her father for Ametsa with Arzak Instruction, at the Halkin hotel, and also for seafood specialists Angler (in the City's shiny new South Place Hotel) and Outlaw's (in couldn't-be-more-different Knightsbridge boutique hotel The Capital). Mayfair's Brasserie Chavot and cutting-edge L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon (demoted this year from two stars) offer two contrasting approaches to French cooking, while there's less-formal dining at the Social Eating House in Soho and Bermondsey's excursion into historic British food, Story.
