Rare work by John Singer Sargent to go in display at National Portrait Gallery.

LONDON, October 14, 2014 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- It may be more than three months away, but London's museums and galleries already have 2015 on their minds. The National Portrait Gallery is the latest London gallery to announce its major exhibition Sargent: Portraits Of Artists And Friends, which will run from 12th February to 25th May 2015. The National Portrait Gallery is located in the heart of London's West End in Trafalgar Square, where it is close to the action in the form of London's best restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. For more about the area, see LondonTown.com, the best London website for tourists hoping to find a hotel in London.

Sargent: Portraits Of Artists And Friends will cover the work of John Singer Sargent, the American artist who as considered the finest portrait painter of his generation. Singer trained in Paris and worked mainly in London, where he was active from the 1870s to his death in 1925. The exhibition will feature a major array of loans from galleries and private collections in Europe and America.

Spanning Sargent's time in London, Paris and Boston as well as his travels in the Italian and English countryside, the exhibition will explore Sargent's incredible circle of friends and his connections with many of the other leading artists, writers, actors and musicians of the time. His portraits of these friends and contemporaries, including Auguste Rodin, Claude Monet and Robert Louis Stevenson, were rarely commissioned and allowed him to create more intimate and experimental works than was possible in his formal portraiture. The exhibition will be one of the highlights of 2015.
