WeCutFoam Collaborates with Kevin Daly Architects to Fabricate Décor for Oscar de la Renta Exhibit at de Young Museum

Sunnyvale, CA, 2016-May-09 — /EPR Network/ — WeCutFoam has recently fabricated some of the props, décor, settings and background for Oscar de la Renta World Premier “The Retrospective” exhibit at de Young Museum in San Francisco, CA. The exhibit was created to pay a tribute to the renowned fashion icon, celebrating his career and achievements. The project was collaboration with Kevin Dally Architects in providing building platforms for furniture props and mannequins. All décor was fabricated from foam which was coated and painted and installed at the museum for the exhibit, running from March 12 till May 30, 2016.

The decorations included a 24 ft Styrofoam replica of NY Chrysler Building, 6 ft large scale foam frames for painting and mirrors, wall backdrops and multiple balusters. All decorations were built to serve as a colorful background to more than 139 ensembles produced by Oscar de la Renta over five decades. The foam pieces were cut on CNC hot wire foam cutters, then glued together, coated with Polyurea hard protective coating and painted. The Chrysler building was created in pieces which were glued together, then sanded to create a smooth finish. Vinyl windows were also glued to create the realistic resemblance to the original building. The fabrication company delivered all foam pieces to the museum where they were installed on site.

WeCutFoam used a specialty reactor spray system to coat all pieces with a fire retardant hard coat. This coating resembling plastic or corning protects any foam projects for life, and is especially best for shielding against corrosion, humidity and water and weather and is great for multiple use of projects. On top of that coating any paint can be applied, including water-based, oil-based or automotive paint.

Tal, the company’s owner said “it was a challenge creating this project since we did not have much time, but we worked around the clock. We also had to work on the Chrysler building while lying down, since it was 24 ft tall once we assembled all the pieces together” Tal continued to say that although the challenges, these are the projects he enjoys the most – exhibits and realistic duplicates for museum and movie sets as it makes the days very colorful.

They have fabricated numerous exhibits and displays in the past, including BAMScape for Berkeley Art Museum, LIZ Whispering Dishes exhibit on Market street in San Francisco collaborating with the Exploratorium, they have also created displays for Peterson Automotive Museum in LA, MOMA SF, CA State Capital Museum and more.
