Inaugural Winners Announced: Women’s In-House Counsel Leadership Institute HORIZON AWARDS

Four General Counsel to be Recognized on October 5 for Advancing Female Leadership in the Legal Profession

Washington, DC, 2016-Sep-30 — /EPR Network/ — Dedicated to the success of women corporate counsel at the highest levels of our nation’s most prestigious corporations,  the Women’s In-House Counsel Leadership Institute (WHICL) announced the recipients of its first-ever Horizon Awards. The inaugural awards ceremony will feature four individual awards designed to recognize key success areas of impact:  mentoring, advocacy, networking, and role models. The inaugural awards celebration will take place Wednesday, October 5 at the historic Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

“Women corporate counsel are on the verge of making historic strides in breaking through the barriers to take over  general counsel positions.  Three strategic trends help create this breakthrough:  1/ A wave of current sitting CEOs and general counsel are on the verge of retirement; 2/ General counsel “ready” women corporate counsel who are poised to become general counsel; and 3/ CEOs and general counsel have more sophisticated expectations for the general counsel candidate and the position,” said WIHCL’s Executive Director Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr.

WIHCL’s inaugural Horizon Awards dinner will honor general counsel and former general counsel – both men and women – who have mentored women who then became general counsel themselves, as well as women general counsel who have mentored other women to become partners in law firms.
