Education reformer Manisha Shelley Kaura and her physician father started researching about the problem of continuous and gradual decline of English vocabulary knowledge among several schoolchildren after this issue was cited in a report by the US Education Department. As the research progressed they found that the children lacked the knowledge of root words. So in order to ensure children do not suffer due to this lack of knowledge, they created a four-level K-12 vocabulary program.

The program aims at imparting basic vocabulary knowledge and that to in a fun and musical way. A Xavier University, Cincinnati alumnus Manisha said in one of the interviews, “Singing and dancing is a whole mind/body experience, also students are more interested in learning through music and songs other than monotonous classroom activities. Therefore, while preparing our Vocab Tunes’ programs we focused on making it a melodious learning activity.”
