All-Female Ensemble to Headline Singapore Lyric Opera’s Gala Concert 2019: The Winning Divas

Singapore, 2019-Oct-12 — /EPR Network/ — The most promising operatic voices in the region return to perform on the SLO stage this November – and they are the three winning sopranos from the SLO-ASEAN Vocal Competition in 2018! Dao Thi To Loan (Vietnam), Stefanie Quintin (the Philippines) and Singapore’s very own Evangeline Ng are the three winners who beat out prominent talent from all across Southeast Asia (and the men!) to emerge victorious at the regional competition. They will be performing classics from Western operas such as La Traviata, The Rake’s Progress and Die Fledermaus together with the rising stars from the SLO-Leow Siak Fah Artists’ Training Programme and the SLO Orchestra, SLO Chorus and SLO Youth and Children Training Programme on 8 November 2019 at Victoria Concert Hall.

Loan, the current reigning champion, has placed first in national, regional and international platforms – Sao Mai, the national singing competition of Vietnam, the SLO-ASEAN Vocal Competition 2018, and LidalNorth International Opera Workshop – and is considered one of the best opera singers in Vietnam today.

Known for her remarkable voice and commanding stage presence, second-place winner Stefanie has showcased her wide repertoire in festivals all over the world and was previously featured as a soloist in Singapore last year.

Singaporean soprano Evangeline rounds up the three headlining divas and she’s only 20. She was the youngest participant at the SLO-ASEAN Vocal Competition 2018 and was the only Singaporean who placed – coming in at a prestigious 3rd place out of 44 participants in the Professional Category. Deciding to pursue singing at 16, she made her professional operatic debut in June 2017 and has placed in international vocal competitions, even achieving a perfect score at one.

Nancy Yuen, Artistic Director, SLO, and Founder of the SLO-ASEAN Vocal Competition, says: “We are delighted to welcome our three winners back to perform with us for Gala Concert 2019. They are some of the brightest stars in the region and are the mark of Asian talent in the opera world. Audience members will be inspired by their vocal prowess showcased through a repertoire of Western opera classics.”

SLO ends their successful 2019 season which saw an estimated 6,500 audience members who attended Opera in the Park, SLO Children’s Choir in Concert: How Far I’ll Go, the semi-staged Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and most recently, the full-length Bizet’s Carmen which recorded a 20% increase in overall  ticket sales.
