The first campaign’s goal is to cover pre-production costs, including script fees, development and car acquisition. “If we fund our goal, we will use the bulk of the pledges to purchase and build the cars,” said the film’s Producer and Co-Director Marc Irvin.
“This is probably the most exciting part for NASCAR fans. They aren’t just helping us build this movie. They’re helping us build these phenomenal cars. We also have a great roundup of rewards to give out, like autographed nosecones, custom racing jackets and roles in the film. We want our backers to know we’re in this together.”
The pre-production car roster includes James Hylton’s #48 1967 Dodge Charger, Richard Petty’s #43 1968 Plymouth Road Runner and #43 1970 Plymouth Superbird, and the Brickhouse/Glotzback #99 1969 Dodge Daytona—among others.
They also intend to complete the final assembly of the #88 winged warrior, which they’ve already replicated.
This will be Irvin’s first film as director and producer. The film veteran has worked in animatronic and special effect mechanics for 21 years. He is the owner of Marc’s Creature Company. His credits include films such as The Green Mile and Lost World: Jurassic Park.
Pat McKinney (Co-Director) and Lon Muckey (Executive Producer) join Irvin in production, whose film projects include the Robocop reboot, Avatar and Gone in 60 Seconds.
Winged Warriors is based on the untold true story of the 1969 Dodge Daytona. It follows Larry, the lead engineer, in his race against time and money to engineer the groundbreaking car.
