SGS Partners with H&M for Hazardous Substance Control (HSC) Workshop to Promote the Goal of Zero Discharge

Hong Kong, China, January 11, 2016 — /EPR NETWORK/ — SGS teams up with H&M and their suppliers by providing a Hazardous Substance Control (HSC) Workshop (1) for professionals in textile production.

Advancing Chemical Management Practices in Textile Production

The HSC workshop was developed by SGS to train professionals in the textile industry in best practices for chemical management. SGS sees this workshop as an opportunity to make a substantial contribution to change in the industry.

Focus is placed on chemical management at each critical stage in textile production, where large amounts of chemicals are consumed in steps such as dyeing, printing, washing, and finishing. Using the core concept of chemical flow management (CFM), this advanced and interactive workshop will educate participants in chemical risk assessment for specific manufacturing processes.

In addition to increasing their technical competence in chemical management, risk assessment and traceability, participants will also receive a CFM toolkit which will help them find inherent risks before and during production, as well as conduct risk assessment, which can play a significantly positive role in overall chemical safety. The HSC workshop provides a platform where participants can exchange ideas on improving chemical management practices and encouraging continual improvement in mills and factories at every stage of manufacturing, with the goal of making a lasting impact industry-wide.

By implementing tried and true best practices, many problems associated with hazardous chemical substances can successfully be avoided. Putting effective chemical management systems in place in the factory as well as at every step along the supply chain is a priority for guaranteeing a safer workplace and better environment.

Striving for Zero Discharge
