PACIFIC BUSINESS GROUP ON HEALTH APPLAUDS CMS AND AHIP FOR ADOPTION OF CORE QUALITY MEASURES FOR PHYSICIANS

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 19, 2016 — /EPR NETWORK/ — Non-Profit Business Coalition to Provide ‘Core Quality Measures Collaborative’ with Input on Behalf of Consumers and Employers

The Pacific Business Group on Health (PBGH), a non-profit organization comprised of private employers and public agencies focused on improving the quality and affordability of health care in the United States, today applauded the joint announcement from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) of an agreement to adopt core quality measures for all physicians in the nation.

This inaugural agreement, announced by the Core Quality Measures Collaborative, which includes CMS, AHIP, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Partnership for Women and Families, outlines seven sets of quality measures which will be applied to both public and private payers.

“This is an important first step in making these measures more useful for large employers and other purchasers,” said Bill Kramer, PBGH’s Executive Director for National Health Policy. “We look forward to the full implementation of this initiative and the inclusion of additional measure sets that are meaningful and useful to consumers and purchasers.”

Quality measure alignment is key to providing consumers and purchasers with valuable information for health care decision-making and recognizing and rewarding providers who improve the quality of healthcare services. PBGH will continue its participation in the Core Quality Measures Collaborative by providing input on behalf of consumers and employers.
