Bond & Taylor Personal Injury Attorneys Obtains $6M Settlement for Burn Victims

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, 2018-Oct-04 — /EPR Network/ — Bond & Taylor attorneys were able to obtain a $6M settlement award for 2 burn victims involved in an apartment fire.  

On the night of July 16, 2015, there was a power outage in Long Beach, California.  Darrel N. & Anne N. had picked up some candles to use as lighting in their apartment for the night.  The couple fell asleep and shortly after woke up to blazing flames. Good Samaritan neighbors helped pry open the security bars located over the windows with a 2×4 wood plank, but not before the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.  Both victims were transported by ambulance to Torrance Memorial Medical Center to treat their burn injuries. The victims suffered smoke inhalation and psychological trauma. One of the victims suffered severe burns to his body with months of recovery.

The property management company & property owners (Entourage Property Management & 444 Chestnut Associates) claimed to have follow safety protocols and took adequate fire safety measures and denied all liability.  During the initial investigation by the law firm, it was discovered that there were flaws to the quick release security bars to open the bedroom window and a defective smoke detector. The property management company did not do a thorough safety check before the victims moved in.
