More Than One in Three Americans Are at Increased Risk for Type 2 Diabetes, but Changing the Outcome Is Possible

Compton, California, 2024-Sep-30 — /EPR Network/ — Prediabetes is reversible, and Living Your Life Without Limits, founded by Shannon Jackson, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ad Council, is committed to raising awareness. With nearly 98 million Americans—more than one in three adults—facing prediabetes, it’s alarming that 81% of them are unaware of their condition. As November marks National Diabetes Awareness Month, it’s the perfect opportunity to educate people about the importance of knowing their risk for prediabetes.

This month, the CDC and the Ad Council have launched a new series of public service announcements (PSAs) as part of their ongoing “Do I Have Prediabetes?” campaign. These PSAs encourage viewers to take a 1-minute prediabetes risk test and offer steps to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. If the test reveals a high-risk score, individuals are urged to consult their doctor and get a blood test to confirm the diagnosis.

Living Your Life Without Limits, also supports this vital campaign. The program’s website, DoIHavePrediabetes.org (or PodriaTenerPrediabetes.org in Spanish), provides essential resources and practical tips for reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, along with connections to the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) Lifestyle Change Program.

“Shannon Jackson states, ‘Our mission is to empower individuals to live healthier lives by taking control of their wellness. The ‘Do I Have Prediabetes?’ campaign is a crucial call to action that can inspire real, life-saving changes. As a CDC-approved partner, we’re committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need to prevent type 2 diabetes.'”

Research shows that a prediabetes diagnosis can motivate individuals to embrace healthier lifestyle changes, including eating better, managing weight, and staying active—critical steps in preventing or delaying type 2 diabetes.
