Hectec releases version 4 of mediCAD

Radolfzell, Germany, February 2, 2016 — /EPR NETWORK/ — The new version of the mediCAD pre-op planning software contains many new functions that save surgeons time and simultaneously result in greater precision and peace of mind.

Many of the new features make planning faster while improving accuracy and certainty. These include the definition of favorites, mirroring of the hip joint center, automatic detection of the femoral shaft axis (for automatic determination of the femoral offset).

During knee procedures, surgeons can now also place the femoral and tibia components in both views AP and ML simultaneously and determine the intramedullar alignment angle. “With version 4 of mediCAD, we fulfill the desire of many doctors to plan with even greater precision and certainty,” according to mediCAD Classic Product Manager Andreas Feneberg of Hectec.

Surgeons can store preferred prostheses under Favorites so they can later access them directly without browsing through the entire list of manufacturers and implants. Mirroring of the hip joint center is particularly useful when the pathological side is very damaged or when one of the two sides exhibits a great deal of deformity. The hip joint center can then be transferred to the healthy side. Another new hip feature: Femur and prosthesis are automatically set when neck length is selected. Users of the software have frequently requested automatic display of the inclination angle during planning of the cup for hip operations. With version 4, this feature is now provided.

Separation between Hallux-Valgus and the ankle makes foot operations easier, more precise, and safer. If Endodok from PACS is supported, the new post-op examination of operation results removes a major burden for quality assurance and documentation. But irrespective of that, this new function permits direct comparison of the operation results with the planning.

mediCAD version 4 will be available directly from the manufacturer’s sales partners beginning in late January.
