ICO to Reduce High Number of Nuisance Calls

LONDON, United Kingdom, 2019-Jan-07 — /EPR Network/ — The new legislation regarding the protection and prevention against nuisance calls has recently come into force. Under the new legislation, which has been valid since the 17th of December, company directors who run unsolicited calls in their companies will be fined by the Information Commisioner’s Office (ICO) of up to £500,000.

Previously, the ICO was only able to fine the companies and not the individuals who run the companies. Because of this, company directors have been able to evade justice by dissolving the company and setting up a new business under a different name. With the new regulation, company directors won’t be able to avoid justice anymore.

The new rules are therefore expected to reduce the high number of nuisance calls in UK. According to Which, more than 70% of people in UK receive at least one nuisance call in a month. People report to still get called although they have registered to the Do Not Call List at the TPS (Telephone Preference Service).

The high number of nuisance calls can also be seen by users reports at tellows, the platform to share information about trustworthy and potential risk calls. Some users reported to have received unsolicited calls from companies with the purpose of telemarketing or even survey.
