SHLC Jointly With Bedlam To Organise A Workshop On Sexual Harassment

 

New Delhi, 2019-Feb-12 — /EPR Network/ —  Sexual Harassment Law Compliance Advisory (SHLC) jointly with Bedlam is organising a workshop on the subjectivity of sexual harassment at from 12:00 pm at ‘A Little Anarky Films’, Haus Khas, New Delhi on 9^th February 2019. .

 

The workshop aims at spreading awareness about the Sexual Harassment laws in place and ways to seek redressal in cases of violation of the rights to a safe workplace, right to work, right to life and dignity. The workshop is an initiative at taking the #Metoo movement forward by spreading more awareness and educating people about their rights.

 

While making the announcement, Aparajita Amar, Co- founder, SHLC said, “Understanding Sexual Harassment is a very important step in creating a safe environment. Sexual harassment is unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature, which makes a person feel offended, humiliated and/or intimidated. Sexual harassment can take various forms. It can involve conduct such as unwelcome touching, hugging or kissing, staring or leering, etc.  How do you determine if the conduct is unwelcome?”

 

The hands-on workshop will provide an overview of what sexual harassment is, it’s types, and will assess the various legal definitions of sexual harassment under the Indian Penal Code – The University Grants Commission (Prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions) Regulations which govern sexual harassment at colleges for college students, college teachers, employees of the college and non-employees and the Sexual Harassment at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, which specifically deal with sexual harassment at workplace.

 

The breakout of the #MeToo movement in India has been empowering in so many ways but has also been equally exhausting. The workshop will seek answers to the way forward and explore the psychological ramifications of something as massive as this movement.

 

“When confronting conflicting evidence as to whether the conduct was welcome or unwelcome, one has to look at it as a whole and at the totality of the circumstances, evaluating each situation on a case-by-case basis” Further added Ms Amar.
